All about Hiking

Last piece.jpg

To prepare properly for the trip Joan and me had a big Sushi dinner with Allan and Marc the evening before we left. It was just the right training and strengthening for a ‘cold’ skiing trip, chopping up vegetables and fighting for the last piece. It was tough, but doable.

A 'winter' hike in Australia is just not the same as in Germany. Enjoying a swim while hiking in winter is simply not the same in Germany and Australia.

The Fjord.jpg

A couple of beers for the long hike, there is nothing better to enjoy a nice sunny day with a nice landscape and nice people.

Kockadoo Mapel Tree.jpg

A spontaneous organized, ca 35 km one day hike across and along the Royal National Park south of Sydney.
Breakfast before sunrise (4 am), lunch with bright & warm sunshine (2 pm) and dinner a long time after sunset (11 pm).

Easter Fire.jpg

Spending Easter camping at a beautiful beach of the Colo River in the Wollemi National Park.
It is a very beautiful spot to camp for a night before going back up the track or continuing the river with a canu or lilo.

Wollangambe Valey.jpg

A hike and swim in Wollemi National Park, with a nice dinner afterwards, and only a two hours drive north of Sydney.
Tiffany, one of my hiking colleagues from Tasmania told me about this hike with some other people she met in Tasmania.

Hiking around Lake St. Clair, the south part of the Overland Track in Tasmania.
The track was full of people from Sydney. At Sydney airport a girl recognized me from the track. And indeed, we talked for 5 minutes before we continued in different directions. And we both are studying at UNSW.

Walking around an active volcano, Mt. Ngauruhoe (aka: Doom Mountain) in the center of New Zealands north island.
The landscape amaying! And the sunset I have seen at Oturere hut is my personal highlight in New Zealand.

Walking from Queenstown towards Milford Sounds - the Routebourn Track - traverses Mt. Aspiring and the Fjordland National Park.
It felt like home in the Alps with all the snow covered summits.

Strolling along the coast in the north of the south island.
Extraordinary beautiful beaches make this relatively easy walk definitely worth doing it.
